HOUSE WOUTERS AND MACHIELS
Set in the picturesque town of Knysna in the heart of the Garden Route in South Africa this house literally rose out of the ashes. Devastating fires raged through the town on the 7th of June 2017 and decimated the house which the clients just purchased. Out of great loss a new design grew which incorporates the elements and the play of fire and water and is resembled in the design. The new design also lent itself to better advantages of the views and solar aspects the site offered.

HOUSE GASKELL
Simplicity in design and function epitomises this house. Set on a large stand in Eastford Glen this house took advantage of the magnificent views onto the Knysna Lagoon. Composite materials were used in the structure of conventional brick as well as a timber frame first floor finished off in sustainable Blackwood flooring. Large spans were achieved with a single steel I beam on the deck for limitless vistas from the Garapa deck. The extensive landscaping really complements this house with large rock boulders that form platforms, niches and steps set between indigenous plants. The house is off-grid thanks to water tanks and Photovoltaic panels.

HOUSE HOFFMAN
Set on a hill in Eastford Country Estate this house was built on the foundations of again another fire ravaged holiday home. the clients lost their precious holiday house to the fire storm of the 7th of June 2017. The rebuilding acknowledges to some extent the previous house but added a modern aspect and finishes as well as a pool and deck which overlooks the Outeniqua mountains on the north-western aspect of the house. The resultant house offers a comfortable escape with ample space for a large family and takes advantage of the magnificent view through the Heads towards the Indian Ocean.
